DNV Certification (Det Norske Veritas Certification), a world leader in certification services in a strategic alliance with Project Management Institute (PMI®), have launched their inaugural Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3) ProductSuite Certification Program.

The OPM3 Certification Program is a comprehensive program designed to elevate the application of the OPM3 Standard to a higher level. The program is accepting individuals that have consulting experience, have conducted assessments, and are able to pass an entrance exam coverings various aspects of the OPM3 Standard.

"Organizations should be aware that when talking about strategic planning, capital budgeting, new product development, organizational change, mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, etc., they are in fact talking about initiatives that translate into, and are executed through, projects.

Senior management should therefore understand that project management is a key strategic tool to drive these initiatives and to reap their business benefits. Organizations that understand the vital importance of excelling at project management, and act upon it, will undoubtedly outperform the competition".1 Those interested in improving their project, program, and portfolio management maturity know that the OPM3 Standard is the ideal methodology and PMI OPM3 Certified Assessors/Consultants are the right people to get the job done.

In a 2004 survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, it was found that "… companies that score high in terms of maturity level do have certified staff - more than 80% … companies that have a lower maturity level frequently do not always have certified staff."2

DNV's program equips experienced, qualified consulting professionals with the very latest in OPM3-based tools and methodology in order for them to assess a company's maturity against globally recognized Best Practices in project, program, and portfolio management. The program includes an entrance assessment, case-based training, license to proprietary software tools, and most importantly - certification credentials. The names of the resulting PMI OPM3 Certified Assessors and Consultants can be added to the official PMI Registry so companies in need of assessment services can easily locate OPM3 Certified individuals.

Project management certification and accreditation is determined by the passing of two exams. The Foundation exam is a multiple-choice test that lasts for up to one hour. The Practitioner test is a bit more complex, mixing in objective testing with multiple-choice questions, and clocking in at approximately three hours.
