Approx 140 pages

It's not a very thick book and, without interruption, could be read in one evening.
And for sure there is nothing subliminal about the messages sent out by the author promoting his time and expense tracking software application Journyx Timesheet.

However, the subject matter has taken years of research, the writing style is relaxing and the arguments unbiased.
I particularly enjoyed the anecdotes and real-life case studies.

Of special interest to those considering the purchase and rollout of an enterprise-wide time tracking and expense recording application will be the recommendations of the author on how to deal with software vendors. Dig deep, ask probing questions, get through the marketing hype.
A breath of fresh air and sage advise coming from the vendor's side.

The first section discusses the reasons for tracking time.

- project accounting and measurement of KPI's
- ability to produce realistic and accurate estimates and quotations based on real historical data
- payroll
- compliance to regulations

The second section delves deeper into the issues surrounding regulations compliance and the infamous SOX requirements.

The third section focuses on how to select a time accounting platform. Comparing 'make-it-yourself' systems versus buying off-the-shelf and bespoke applications. It includes recommendations on requirements specifications, what to ask vendors; about trial periods and the pro's and con's of web-based applications versus stand-alone systems.

The final section looks into the future. Discussing the 'Software as a Service' (SaaS) concept, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and the implications of Web2.0

If you are concerned with the need for time-cost management, SOX compliance and accurate reporting, if you are considering introducing an automated time tracking and reporting system, then this book is a pre-requisite must-read.

Oh! did I mention that a 10-user licence for Journyx Timesheet is FREE...
