Do you have long-term projects with short-term expectations?
That is a sure path to frustration and, usually, failure.

Lifestyle goals such as exercise and healthy eating have to become habits, a part of your routine, in order to be effective.
Career change also takes time and good planning. It doesn't happen overnight!

Your world has shifted.
Voice-mail, email, pagers and faxes have made the 'waiting' period almost unacceptable. With information immediately available, you expect relationships and goal achievement to be the same somehow. It is not just the emotional satisfaction of immediate gratification that you want.
It is the actual benefit package that goes with it. Of course, as you read this, you know that it is unreasonable, don't you? Advertisers stay up nights and get big bucks to write copy to insist that you deserve it...AND that it is readily and effortlessly available!

When you want to teach and train a puppy, you know that it is going to take time and continuous, consistent reinforcement of appropriate behavior. You're ready for that because you want your puppy to behave in a particular way.
It seems a lot easier to give that time and attention...and expectation...to the puppy's changing behavior than to your own, doesn't it? Why are you so patient with the puppy and so hard on yourself?

When you plant a row of seeds in your garden, you tend it. You give it water. You hope for sunlight. You are gentle with it even though you can hardly wait to see the flowers. Are you this nurturing to yourself?

How do you move gently and effectively towards your goals? The best approach is a reasonable one. Break your long-term project goal into sub-goals, or immediate objectives.
Break it into 'do-able', short-term chunks. Today you prepare the soil. Tomorrow you plant the seeds. For the next several weeks, you keep the weeds away and provide water. You occasionally offer fertilizer, shade or pest spray. Each action contributes to the eventual bouquet. Each step is satisfying because you know that it is contributing to the production of the flowers you want to see.
You know you cannot rush nature, however, it is unlikely that Mother Nature will plant the exact species of flower you want in the exact place you want it without your help, isn't it? The same is true for your goals.

It is much more than "Bloom where you're planted" when you are the gardener!
You choose what to plant and how to nurture it.
Do the same for yourself. Grow yourself beautifully.
